Our Story

From paramotors to direct-drive engines

E-Props was founded in 2008 by Anne Lavrand and Jérémie Buiatti, aviation enthusiasts and pilots, out of a shared conviction: propellers could be made dramatically lighter and more efficient using carbon composite construction and rigorous aerodynamic design.

The company's full name — Hélices E-Props (SAS Electravia) — tells that story: E-Props stands for Electravia Propellers. Electravia first made its name in electric aviation, developing more than 70 electric-powered aircraft between 2008 and 2014, including Electra, the world's first 100% electric airplane, and the record-setting Cri-Cri Cristaline. Propellers were part of that work from day one — and as demand for E-Props' own carbon propellers grew, the team chose to focus entirely on designing and manufacturing them.

The company became the world leader in paramotor propellers, then extended its carbon-titanium engineering to ultralight/light aircraft and drones — equipping over 260 aircraft and ultralight models and working directly with 50 major manufacturers, exporting 90% of production to 86 countries.

ASCALON, launched in 2026, brings that same engineering to direct-drive Lycoming and Continental engines. E-Props obtained its first EASA Type Certificate in March 2023, and is now pursuing EASA Part 21G production approval — the same rigor now being extended to the direct-drive world.

Anne Lavrand

Founder and president of E-Props. Background at Aviasud Engineering, Airbus (Space Division) and 2 other aeronautical design offices. Pilot (aircraft, ultralight, delta trike) and propeller test pilot. Leads company management, sales and communication.

Co-Founder & R&D Director

Jérémie Buiatti

Propeller designer and head of E-Props' R&D department. Since 2007, develops LUKY, E-Props' proprietary aerodynamic and mechanical design software built on an evolutionary algorithm. Pilot (ultralight, paramotor). Technical Director.

Facility

The main workshop houses a custom-built RTM injection center, two 8-axis CNC machining centers with laser-scanner dimensional control, professional 3D printers for tooling and prototypes, and a full suite of test benches — fatigue, tensile/compression (40-ton hydraulic rig), and instrumented propeller performance and noise testing. The site is solar-powered (500 kVA) with a purpose-built, energy-efficient climate system designed in-house, and is currently pursuing EASA Production Organisation Approval (Part 21G).
